Test #005: Great Escape

Green Spades (Nurgle) vs. Terrors of Tarantino (Chaos)

Summary

This Week 3 Old World Football game was a smash hit among the coaches.  Gym-Bo’s Terrors were at it again.  This time they had been destroying Damek’s Green Spades.  At this point of the game, The Terrors had already inflicted 9 casualties (some regenerated) to the Green Spades and were barreling towards the end-zone.  Damek, however, kept his cool and with some remarkable defensive positioning, outstanding use of rerolls, and a little luck, Damek’s Pestigor was able to blitz the ball carrier causing a fumble.  On a subsequent turn, Damek’s Pestigor was able to blitz off a defender, followed up to get away from another, and picked up the ball on a mad dash for the end-zone.  Gym-Bo astutely reacted by clearing a way in the scrum for his STR5 Tentacled Chaos Warrior to mark the ball carrier.  Now it’s your turn.  You are heavily undermanned, you’re on a break away, and you need to stall / possibly position yourself for the score.  What would you do?  Post your answers below!

Objective

You tell me. 🙂  Can you position the ball carrier so he can’t get blitzed?

Rules
  • It’s the start of your turn.
  • Tentacles Reminder: The player may use this skill when an opposing player attempts to dodge or leap out of any of his tackle zones. The opposing coach rolls 2D6 adding his player’s ST and subtracting the Tentacles player’s ST from the score. If the final results is 5 or less, then the moving player is held firm, and his Action ends immediately. If a player attempts to leave the tackle zone of several players that have the Tentacles skill, only one may attempt to grab him with Tentacles.
You're the Nurgle coach. Your team has been beaten to a pulp, but you have a chance to get a score. Note that your opponent has zero rerolls. What would you do?

Damek wisely chose to blitz the STR 5 defender with a 2D block in opponent’s favor. Since the Pestigor already had block, the chances of him failing the block was 9.6% with reroll. This is less than failing the tentacle roll (8+) which has a probability of 34.02% failure with a reroll. Also, by going for a blitz, the Pestigor would still have the option to dodge out if a block result was chosen by Gym-bo.

On a special note, Horns only adds +1 STR for BLOCKS. This means your horns ability would not have played a factor in your tentacles roll.

In the actual game Damek blitzed 2d opponent’s favor, pushed away, gfi’d twice then did a 1d block with a block result by his rotter….. The rotter knocked himself out and left the beastman prone effectively making his pestigor unblitzable. Gym-Bo attempted to GFI with his Tentacled Chaos Warrior to mark the pestigor, but failed.

In a REE-DIC-U-LOUS twist, however, Damek attempted to stall. He was so concerned about his team getting demolished during the kickoff that he attempted to stall on turn 15… by GFI-ing away from the prone Chaos Warrior and Beastman…. only to roll double 1s on his GFI attempt knocking himself out!!!!!!!!

The game ended in a tie with all spectating coaches yelling, screaming, and gnashing teeth.

  1. NW 3 one dies Minotaur (2+), either pushing it og knocking it down with block.

    NW 5 moves to L2.

Now it is very annoying that their Beastman 9 has tackle, but assuming we have a RR, next action:

NW 4 dodge to K1 (4+), and move to I4.

P 6 Blitz! 1 die on CW 6, needing a push, (3+) and remembering NOT to follow up and use Piling On 😉 P 6 moves to O9.

NR 15 2 dice blocks B 13 needing a push and pushing him to H 5, following up.

    Thats all the players.

  2. As the tentacule warrior #6 also have block, the -2D was worse than the obvious dodge from #4 1D blitz since he had a reroll.

plus considering the facts that :
    – a failure would let the ball down,
    – the blitz uses 1 square of the ball carrier forcing him to GFI twice to get out of reach
