Test #006: Crowd Surf’s Up!

Welcome to another installment of Elf Take!  I’m your host Skip Tasteless and today we’re upping the tempo a little bit.  Do you think you know chain pushing?  Now is your chance to prove it.

Orc vs. High Elf Scrimmage

This is a rendition of a game played on FUMBBL.  Mardaed was coaching a high elf team and was in awe of the orc offensive tactics.  The orc coach was able to slice through the standard 2 by 2 defense with precision blocks and excellent positioning.  After a few turns, the orcs had the elves entrapped.  Inspired by this, Mardaed called his practice squads to recreate the scenario.

The orcs were keeping the high elves on their heels.  Their relentless assault kept  forcing the high elves to dodge out and regroup.  Mardaed, however, suffered the bane of all elf coaches…  Lineman #9, the first player to take an action,  suffered a 1-1 dodge and fell crumpled to the ground ending the turn!  Now you are the orc coach.  You don’t particularly like this Mardaed coach, and your mouth is salivating for the carnage that will ensue.  You are eyeing the crowd push opportunity with High Elf Blitzer #5, but you are feeling like making a statement to this coach.  You are going to push 2 players off the pitch!

Objective

Push 2 players off the pitch.

Rules
  • You must do it in 1 turn.
  • Assume that all 2d (your favor) blocks will result in pushes. All 1d blocks and 2d blocks in opponent’s favor will result as skulls.
  • Assume Really Stupid (2+) succeeds, (4+) fails.
  • Assume all other 1d6 action rolls fail.
  • Don’t sacrifice ball security! You cannot have an easy blitz to your ball carrier by the High Elf team at the end of your turn. If any blitz is possible, a high elf player who chooses to blitz your ball carrier must require at the least multiple 3+ dodges to reach the ball carrier, preferably a 2d block your favor.
  • For simplicity, assume all high elves are rookies.  All orcs and troll have block.
Push 2 players off the pitch! Assume all High Elf players are rookies and that all of your players have Block. Assume all 2D blocks result as pushes. 1D and 2D opponent's favor result as attacker down.

View Skip's Hint

To avoid dodges, the solution requires 6 blocks.

View Skip's Answer

  1. Position Blitzer 12 so he is adjacent to Blitzer 11, Blitzer 4, and Black Orc 10
  2. Throw a block with Lineman 7 at High Elf Blitzer 6 and chain push the prone High Elf towards Black Orc 10 pushing him so he marks High Elf Catcher 4
  3. Block High Elf Catcher 4 and push him towards the sideline so he is diagonal to High Elf Blitzer 5.  DO NOT FOLLOW UP.
  4. Block High Elf Blitzer 5 with Blitzer 11 and push towards the sideline.  Follow up.
  5. Move Thrower 5 and mark High Elf Blitzer 5
  6. Block High Elf Blitzer 5 with Blitzer 13 to push him off the pitch!
  7. Block High Elf Blitzer 6 with the Troll and push him so that Blitzer 4 is no longer marked.
  8. Take a Blitz action with Blitzer 4 and push High Elf Catcher 4 off the pitch!
  9. For ball security make sure your flank is not vulnerable to attack.  Position Black Orc 2 and Block Orc 3 so the high elves can’t make any easy dodges to blitz your ball carrier.  Throw a 2D block with Black Orc 1. (You have to mark High Elf Lineman 8 or High Elf Lineman 10 with the two Black Orcs you were moving.

Extra solution found by brother: If you move up with Black Orc 10 then make sure to follow up with Blitzer 13! Then when you blitz with Blitzer 4, make sure to attack diagonally so that he gets pushed out by Blitzer 13 position.

I don’t know if this’ll work, but I think it comes close.

-Orc Blizter nr. 7 pushes HE Blitzer nr. 6 to D3 and stays put.
-Orc Blitzer nr. 4 takes over and pushes the same Blitzer to C4 and follows to D3 (I think).
-Black Orc nr. 10 keeps it going by pushing poor nr. 6 to B4 and HE Blitzer nr. 5 to A3.
-Troll wanders over to B2 to assist.
-Orc Blitzer nr. 13 pushes HE Blitzer nr. 5 across the sidelines and follows to A3.
-Orc Blitzer nr. 11 pushes HE Blitzer nr. 6 to A4 and follows to B4.
-Orc Blitzer nr. 12 blitzes to B3 and pushes HE Blitzer nr. 6 across the sidelines. Agh. No he doesn’t.

Thanks for the comment. I realized the pic didn’t have a proper grid system. I updated it for the rest of our viewers.

As for the solution… yes… very close.

    blitzer #7 push elf 4 to D3
blitzer #4 push elf 4 to C4, following to D3
    blitzer #12 go to A3
blitzer #11 push elf 5 to A4 and follow to B4
black orc #10 push elf 4 to B4, pushing blitzer #11 to A5
Troll BLITZ ! –> e2-d2-c3, push elf 4 to A4, pushing off the pitch elf 5
blitzer #13 push off the pitch elf 4
black orc #2 goes to C1
ball carrier #5 goes to B2

by the way, 5 blitzer ???

Maybe is there another solution, because blitzer #11 will soon see his fans….

Thanks for the reply, David. I’ve fixed the roster. Orc #7 should be a lineman.

Also, I think you have to go back and look at your solution because if I’m correct, you’re pushing Elf #6 around and not Elf #4. I also don’t see how you can push an orc to A5. Did you mean A3?

Last comment, can you see the solution? I’ve noticed in older versions of Internet Explorer, Skip’s solution isn’t actually viewable.

    well, you’re right, it’s elf #6…
And my orc #11 is on A5 at the end, A3 is full with my blitzer #12 (step 3)

so it goes like that :

    1- lineman#7 push elf 6 to D3
    2- blitzer #4 push elf 6 to C4, following to D3
    3- blitzer #12 go to A3
    4- blitzer #11 push elf 5 to A4 and follow to B4
    5- black orc #10 push elf 6 to B4, pushing blitzer #11 to A5
    6- Troll BLITZ ! –> e2-d2-c3, push elf 6 to A4, pushing off the pitch elf 5
7- blitzer #13 push off the pitch elf 6
    8- black orc #2 goes to C1
    9- ball carrier #5 goes to B2

ho, did’nt saw you posted the solution ^^
sorry, mine isn’t as good as yours, because my blitzer #11 will be pushed off the pitch (thought 2 more elves will be off after that)
