Since we have some cyanide players here, I was wondering if, at the higher levels of play, the metagame had solidified. For example maybe there is a clear "best" team. Or, if there is enough rock-paper-scissors going on, than maybe a clear optimal skill selection for the better teams. Or perhaps tactics might be consistant in ways we don't see on the tabletop, because a person playing the Cyanide game might get the number of games most of us get in a year within a week. Oh, and just to see if we're to be left with a shred of unexplored territory, is it known if the rest of the teams will get added or not?

I don't really keep an eye on teh metagame but at higher levels it seems to be mostly Dark Elves and Chaos. With Chaos it seems they just give all their players Mighty Blow, Claw and Piling On and just kill everyone who opposes them. Doesn't sound fun to me.

THere are a lot of issues with the cyanide game. First of all, the matchmaker and port issues cause many players to not be able to play or even find a game. Having fixed my pot forwarding issues months ago, I have personally yet to be able to find a single game via matchmaker mode on the cyanide game. The second thing to bear in mind, is the fact that players on cyanide are notorious for picking and choosing games to play. If they locate a team that they don't feel favours them in a game, they just won't play. In addition, if their team racks up injuries causing players to miss games, well, they can just play a quick challenge game against some scrubs to get their players back, and harvest some quick spp. Leagues are a greater test than public play.

Indeed, open match making is full of teams that are "created" rather then played. It's not hard at all to "farm" a team to perfection just by picking uncommon matchmaking games at low hours to play with their friend. And hey, if something somehow goes wrong you can just delete and restart (never mind any disconnecting funny buissness). Anyway, I hardly think there is much in the way of "metagame" on the cyanide version.

Hi, Long time lurker, first time poster. Looking through those rankings, it seems that the lead race is dwarves by a bit (over 20 in the top 100), then wood elves on 20, chaos on 16, rats on 11, lizards on 9, orcs on 8, delves on 6, humans on 3 and goblins on zero. There are issues with this sample but I do think it's commentable that orcs rate lower than even lizardmen. Still, probably not as informative as looking at results from some of the online leagues. (p.s. many thanks to Coach for the excellent website. Am relatively new to BB and seem to be holding my own, thanks largely to the advice)

The current MM system is extremely broken. Many teams are farmed until they reach their optimal TV bracket. Some players use exploits to maintain their rankings (eg being able to disconnect with no repercussions). So the rankings are generally fairly meaningless, with a few exceptions here and there. I personally am still able to get games on MM when I try although it can sometimes take a bit of time, trying at different TV levels and asking people in the chat what TV level they are looking for games in MM at. All the teams I use in MM have only played MM games (except for 1 wood elf team I retired from a private league after 1 season due to excessive injuries). I personally find it to be a challenge to face farmed teams and the coaches are normally not as good as their teams would imply! ![]() When LE comes out it will supposedly restrict the main MM league to teams that can only play MM games, so that will resolve the farming / recovery games issues. It just remains to be seen if disconnection exploits will be addressed, although I don't often run into those either.

Oh come on, this level of metagaming is almost as old as online BB (and a lot older than the cyanide game) I'll run from my LRB4 experience (on FUMBBL) I'll restrain myself to the races currently available on cyanide for now. Darkies and Chaos get better the higher the TR(or TV) goes. Dwarves are invariably solid, as their AV9 and Thick skull means they can just keep going, while their linemen are great out of the box Wood Elves are good as long as you can keep the team alive. Orcs are good at any level of the game. Skaven live fast, die young, like wood elves, but reliant on certain players to be more awesome Lizards are good as long as you can get and retain skills on the Saurii. Humans are jacks of all trades, but their lack of specialism is also their weakness Goblins are (by design) never going to be quite as good as most other teams
