Default First Win!
Wooohoooo! I finally beat the damned AI! Only took about 8 games to happen, but I gutted out a 1-0 win with my Gornash Raiders Orc team against a Human team in a single player Competition. Third game of the competition and I'm still in last place, but at least I'm not skunked anymore.

The Gornash Raiders are a TV1000 Rounded Orc starting team. A couple fortuitous failures helped me along, but I'll take the dice rolls when the come.

I can see the attraction of this game and fear I may be hooked!

Good Job.

Keep at it and soon you will be beating the AI regularly.
When that happens you may develop a taste for something more tasty like real Human Blood, mwhahahaha.

I second Thanatos' assessment. When I first got the game I could not beat the AI at all. Reading tactics here at BBTactics really improved my game and now it seems like I still win even when the odds seem against me.

Human players, well that is another story! I'm playing in the OFL's Tournament League and my combined record is a sorry 1-2-2, eeking out my first win just last week mainly due to a lucky Blitz kick-off. I considered my ties to be moral victories due to my lack of experience.

I will say that playing a human is much more fun and challenging. Even from the first game (and the humiliating loss I suffered) I learned so much by watching what my opponent was doing, especially with creative uses of the Blitz action.

Yes, that may in fact be one of my favourite aspects of the game.
When you can use a series of chain pushes to push a ball carrier out of a cage it can be a very satisfying experience ingame.

Thanks, I'm definitely picking up the game now and really enjoying it. I expect playing against a human opponent will be an entirely new challenge and am looking forward to it.

Talking Coming Along
Well, the Gorash Raiders survived their first competition finishing out with a 0-0 tie against a Vampire team and a 2-0 tromping of an Amazon team.

The Vampires couldn't get a bite in for love or money. They lost three players to failure to feed! I should have scored, but the lineman I was forced to use had buttered his fingers instead of using Halfing Tree-sap and failed to pick up the ball 2 spaces from the end zone three turns in a row. I can't really complain though as his butter prevented the Vampire player from grabbing it either! Definitely a greased pig skin.

The Amazons were simply no match against the Raiders. They never advanced the ball out of their half and repeatedly made dodgy Dodges that failed on them, and me without any Guard characters either. The Orcs stomped their way forward in a Cage for the first score and then a Run-handoff-run-pass-SCORE sequence on Turn 14 to seal the deal.

I only managed to skill up 2 characters, a blitzer and a thrower. Still learning how to focus my SPP properly. They almost all have at least a couple points. I expect the next Competition will see some major improvements.

I've learned to foul at all occasions on the off-chance of gaining SPP and am getting much better and setting up tackle zones and chain blocks. Quite fun.

Just wanted to clear something up for you: You do not get spp from fouling. Blocks, yes. Scoring, yes. Fouling, no. Pushing players out of bounds, no.

Ahhh. Thanks for clarifying that. I really should print out the damn rules and read them through so I can get them into my head in reasonably good order. ;-)

Always happy to see another player take their licks as they learn the game and stick with it and learn from their opponents and their own mistakes till things start to turn around. good job
