Default Gentlemen.
Howdy folks *tips hat*,
Just a quick Hello to introduce myself.. Though this thread might just devolve into a noob asking pro's for advice, Ha!

I have to admit I was only a veeery casual BB player in earlier years.. and it's only with the release of the full game (and a very pesky naggy friend) that's brought me back into the game.
My first ever team were Lizardmen and, let's just say my limited understand of the game led to some very unsatisfying games..

Weirdly, thanks to the AI on the Blood Bowl DS game, iv picked up afew bits and tricks to help me along the way, but I'm still very very new to the over all meta and common strategies for teams.

I'd like to thank someone on the BB PC chat for bringing me here. (Dreamy, aka Nikolai II). So I'll probably be hanging around here, every now and again asking for afew hints and tips on whatever team takes my interested. (Mostly on the PC game).

So, Greetings and Goodbye!
Your friendly neighborhood, Tophat wearing Feline.
TopHatCat.

Welcome TopHatCat... if you want tips this is the right site. Coachman has some articles on the main site (ie not in this forum).

There are some older topics with specific questions that you might find useful too. It takes some time to absorb it all !

Cheers

Hi there THC, and welcome to these forums.

The turnaround between question and answer might not be as short here as in chat, but hopefully you'll be able to get more opinions and perhaps more thought-through replies here, so it should work out well.

Lebe - don't mix up Coach (site owner) with Coachman (bjj hero)

Yes! Iv already been having a browse through hehe, Quite helpful.

My huge problem is I have yet to find a team that I love above all else.. I just, can't seem to find one to suit me so far.
The teams I'm interested in are Amazons, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Lizardmen, Norse, Nurgle & Undead.

Also possibly Chaos, but it'd have to be 'themed', a Tzeentchian team that has lots of Re-rolls and every player has to pick a mutation as his first upgrade, Haha ^^ Doubt it'd be very viable tho :P
Actually on that note, Why do people rate Chaos teams so lowly?

Nikolai... I don't mix these coaches up. I am curious what is Coach's cyanide name though?

TopHat... figuring your "team" takes time. I was all basher initially with a fun Nurgle team. Then i started meddling with Amazons and I loved the blodgy thingy and that I could dodge a bit and be more flexible. So I thought I was heading to liking elves and high agility... after having pro-elves, high elves and woodies nicely beaten up I gave up. Now I know that I like a mix of bash and movement... so I went Necro. But I certainly wouldn't have done well with them right from the start or even a bit further on. So take your time.

My suggestion is playing a mix of teams to get the hang of it. Lizzards were my nemesis... after playing a few games with a Lizzie team I understood them better and managed to finally win against them. Play a Bash and a Agile team... very different styles...

They do ?!

Chaos are very bad right at the beggining... once they get skilled they are scary... but that takes time. Might be that so many pick chaos just to make killer teams that get old fast.

Ahhhhh I see, Iv heard they make good killers are high TV but that's about it.

And yes I'm experimenting with afew teams, just like you I use to love laying the smackdown (with Dwarves, all that block made it much safer), and thanks to Niko I'm now having ALOT of fun with Amazons playing alittle bit of the dodge game.

With the knowledge from both these I'm tempted to go back and try my Lizardmen again.. but time will tell!

Now my biggest question that iv always wanted to ask here...
Blood bowl is like, 90% luck and 10% tactics... How do you cope with the crushing defeats and terrible rolls? How can you NOT get angry? Haha! Obviously you try to laugh it all off but sometimes it just takes the mick!
How do YOU deal with the bad? XD

I have one way to cope, As stated before I once made a Tzceentchian themed team (on the PC game) and whenever I lost or got a horrendously bad roll (2skulls followed by a re-roll of 2skulls, for example) I'd just openly and happily state. "Oh well! Clearly it's the will of Tzeentch!" XD That darn fickle dark god. All part of his great plan.

hi Tophatcat, as and old chaos coach I can only say this, if you enter the realm of TV 2100+ then that realm belongs to Chaos, Nurgle and sometimes to a lucky Chaos dwarf team.

Direct access to mutations does the trick. With only normal skill rolls every time, the chaos teams will start to dominate at 2100+. The diversity with direct mutations goes way beyond claws. You will find ball handling extraordinare and even passing made easy - and this while the dedicated killers take your team off the pitch. Fear chaos at high levels - they rock

By the way I think of BB as a 90 % skill game and 10 % luck, or else I have to play the numbers with some of the guys I know, man they play good BB. Wish I could learn it as fast as they do

The extent to which BB depends on luck depends in turn on your own playstyle. You can play really conservatively and make luck a fairly small factor... but that's pretty damn dull way of going about things.

The way to cope with bad luck is to remember it all evens out in the long run, and even though you can't affect luck itself, you can influence how that luck affects the game!
