| Hi there, I'm planning a Pro Elf team for a long-term league (24 teams) and I'm considering this starting roster: 2 Blitzers 220k 9 Linemen 540k 4 RRs 200k 40k banked toward the Apoth. My idea is to buy 2 Catchers, then a Thrower, then the last 2 Catchers, then the second Thrower. I start out skilling up the linemen (and getting Dodge on each Blitzer). Then when the Catchers show up, I'll let them get all the SPPs they please. With all those RRs (taking advantage of the cheap linemen), I figure I won't have too many problems scoring, and can keep them out of trouble on defense by dodging them out of contact. My questions are, ever having played Elfs, I'm not sure how insane this is. Specifically, not starting with any of the best players on the roster! But assuming it's not too insane (remember it's a long league), is 4 RRs going to be too much? Should I just start with 3RR, the Apoth, and 40k banked toward that first Catcher? |

| This can work very well, under previous editions where you had to spend money on Fan Factor, Dark and High Elf teams would start with 11 Linemen and 3 rerolls.

| The lineup you have could work well, but why not start with catchers? Pro Elf play more like skaven in that they get several superstar players(catchers and blitzers) and the rest are just fodder. Forcing SPP on AV 7 linemen you are not willing to Apothecary seems rather silly. Also, starting with a lot of Rerolls and no Apo might get you into trouble. If you have a bad first game, you could find those Rerolls less useful if you start having to field several loners. If you want to stay close to your current setup, you could drop 1 Reroll for an Apothecary and a Catcher. GL |

As for not starting with an Apoth, yes it's possible to get a bad game your first one but then it's also possible to roll death on your Apoth roll, it's still generally a better idea to buy rerolls while they are cheaper and follow it up with an Apoth after your first game IMO. |

| Yeah, for a long term league I think this is an interesting build. High elves have a similar build with 8 linemen, 1 thrower, 2 blitzers and 3 re-rolls. The idea is similar, because you delay getting your catchers in favour of an extra re-roll and so that you can level some of your linemen more easily. High elves have a little more armour though, so can probably get away with this more easily. Definitely worth trying all the same for pro elves. |

| I think that is a brilliant starting roster for a long league, it is a very good idea to skill up your linemen fast and you are 100 % sure to get your Apoth after game 1. Just go for it. 4 rerolls is perfect for most teams. Last edited by Netsmurf; 16th October 2010 at 10:58 AM. |

| It looks like a decent roster to me, I don’t think I’d use it, I’d spend that 40k to upgrade a lineman to a catcher. The catcher is possibly the most vital part of the elf play style, while the lineman can fill in for the thrower with a reroll in place of pass no reroll can make up for the 8 MA or the NOS and if you use a reroll on the pass you won’t have one for the catch, when it comes down to the really important TDs the catcher is irreplaceable. Plus, when you want the +1 SPP for a completion it’s noticeably safer to toss it to a catcher than just a regular elf. Finally I’d hate to pay for 9 line elves only to have to retire them as I fill up on 6 more positionals. |
