| I'm using the competition rules (which is the same thing as LRB6...?) and was playing Orcs today. The Troll has the Throw Teammmate skill. He also has AG1, and therefore will fumble the Gobbo (oo-err) on anything less than a 5 in optimal conditions. Isn't this just a little bit... well... crap? Not only has the Troll had to pass up the opportunity to block or blitz an enemy, but after managing the 5+ pick-up roll can only make a quick or short pass which automatically scatters anyway (and on the roll of 1 tries eating the Goblin). It seems like an incredibly poor skill with a high rate of failure and only very modest returns on the rare occasion that you pull it off. My question is, does anyone actually use the Troll to Throw Teammate? [edit] I was playing Orc, not paying them. Though maybe I should have, the blighters might have scored. | I'd say the only useful time to do it on an Orc team is for a 1-turn touchdown attempt. On a Goblin team it can be used on defense, if you've been outmanuevered or to try and break a cage. In all cases it tends to be a desperation play that you don't expect to work but have to try. Halflings teams with their Treemen can utilise it as a tactic more effectively (plus they have less other viable tactics) and tend to try it more often. |

The troll can get the gobbo airborne with 2+ for stupidity, then a 2+ for realy hungry, then a 3+ if in no TZ to throw the gobbo for a short pass. The troll only get -1 to the pass

Note that you don't have to roll pickup - the player is automatically jumping into the hand of the thrower. Also, fumble is only ever on a one (modified or unmodified for passing) - what comes next is "inaccurate pass", which is the best you can ever get for TTM. So as the smurf said, no 5+ rolls needed, just 2+, 2+ and 2+ for a quick pass or 3+ for a short pass (longest you can get). And then the thrown gobbo needs a 4+ agi roll or he's knocked down on landing..

Ah, ok. So it's not as useless as I thought. Thanks for the clarification!

Also, not mentioned above, would be using a gobbo as a missile. Although you can never be sure of hitting the intended target, using the TTM skill to lob the little guy at a cage can punch a hole to the ball carrier or even take him out. And it carries no risk of turnover. Not what you'd call reliable but who doesnt like throwing goblins at the opposition?

Snotlings are definately the best and cheapest ammo. I have played around with ogres and its a common occurance to see a snot fly across the pitch. But as far as orcs go it would be far less expected, catching opposition coaches off guard. TTM is just another weapon for the versitile orcs.
