Default True Blood Bowl
I feel as tho Blood Bowl has lost some of its purity by going online. Dont get me wrong, Cyanide has done a great job replicating the board game and it has opened Blood Bowl up to the masses and allows for amazing networks and BB community.

However, i think it lost something along the way. Whether its painting the minis, holding and rolling the dice, watching the facial expressions of an opposing coach as u roll 6's to intercept with a big guy, the trash talk, rulebook debates, or getting together with mates and playing, im not sure.

I just enjoy TT so much more. Just my opinion. At the moment i play 3 teams in different divisions of the same league. The Legends Plate is for long term developement and teams carry over, The Giffin Shield III with roughly 15 teams and resets each season, and the Collegia Street Bowl. All 3 divisions compliment each other with Legends plate players able to be star players in Giffin Shield matches and Street bowl players able to be recruited into the other two divisions (all subject to being the same race) We have a custom Chaos Cup with 4 teams playing at the same time, and we all get together every week and have multiple games going. And it works really well.

You just dont get that online. We never have problems with bash heavy leagues or MB/Claw killer filled teams and we have a variety of teams and stratergies. We have a passing Chaos team in the Legends plate!

I recon if u want to experience Blood Bowl in its purest form and play the way it was intended you cant really go past TT. And little tweeks to customise your league and give it some individuality can be awesome fun. Street bowl, dungeon bowl, 4 way Chaos cup get on TT!!

Even though I haven't played BB online, the social part of the game is what I'm after and I prefer to play other games, like Magic offline rather than online.

In short: well said, sir!

Having just returned from the biggest BB TT tournament ever (480 coaches!), I totally agree.
Online is great, TT is better.

Would love to play tabletop instead of online only, it might motivate me to paint the 5 teams I have.

Unfortunately with no one nearby to play against, that's a rare occurance.

I did look into the local league registered with NAF, but their website has been dead for months so I assume they closed down.

There's a gaming club near where I am, but their website is horribly out of date and Blood Bowl appears to be something they only get around to having a league for every year or two, rather than something regular.

Combine that with 3 young kids limiting my evenings to go out and I'm very glad Cyanide is there.

I'm not sure it harms Blood Bowl in any way though, and opening up for the masses has to be a good thing for the long term to encourage more tabletop players, in my view.

Only downside is the limited implementation by Cyanide - missing stars and cards etc.

I've just come back from the NAF World Cup tourney, and was on the website this morning (though it has literally just crashed for me).

D'oh! Just realised you meant the league website, not the NAF.

I'm sure I've seen talk of a league in the Hull area on TFF.

Yup - I was looking for Yorkshire Blood Bowl, but their site has been dead ever since I started looking into them early in the year.

Here in Portugal gaming in general, never mind Blood Bowl, isn't so common... so no Cyanide means no Blood Bowl for me. I'm a big fan of boardgames... BB TT takes too long and I suck at painting...

Plus when I do have more time there are many other boardgames in which many more people can play too and in less time.

Wink
Private leagues cure many of the weaknesses of playing online. Lots of trashtalk to be found and set divisions keep the teams nicely even.

While I would love to play TT now, I live in Argentina, so not much chance of that really!

I used to own the first edition of the board game and the first expansion, way back when the game first came out. I sold it, however, when I left school, so that was the end of my TT experience! If the Cyanide game had not come out, that would probably have also been the end of my BB experience too!

I am sure that TT has many advantages over the electronic versions of the game, but being able to play 24/7 against people all over the world has its advantages too!

Also, some great communities, such as this one, have sprung up thanks to the video game and there has been a massive resurgence in interest in BB thanks to it too. I understand the sentiment about TT, but don't sell the online side short either!

Definitely have to agree on the merit and enjoyment of a good online community such as we find here - really appreciate the wealth of experience as well as being a good social outlet.
