Default vs High Elves
Hi again, I previously posted for help on playing the Norse and had great results based on the community feedback.

My next game is against a High Elf team that was rather rughed up by a Lizard team in the first game of the season. I lost a Wight and accidentally purchased a Skeleton. So the teams look like this.

Undead Team (950)
5 Zombies
1 Skeleton
2 Mummys
1 Blitzer
2 Ghouls
3 RR

High Elf (830)
1 Blitzer
1 Thrower
7 Linemen
2 RR
Apoth

Any help with formations is appreciated. I was considering a 5 man line but it is more likely he will just dodge away so it is possible to just run the spread ziggurat defense. I am also a little worried that he will have 120k for inducements.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about inducements, don't forget that he will get two journeyelves (140k) to bring his numbers up to 11, meaning that you'll get 20k of inducements

wow that is one beat up high elf team.

With2 rerolls and not a lot of speed you should ahve a good chance in this match. You do not mention skills, but I guess there are not a lot of those about.

Anyway you want to go for a standard 2-1 grind, so on his posession it does not matter if he scores early, you score on turn 8 and turn 16.

As with all games against elves you want to try to turn it into a brawl if you can, so you mark up his players a lot and try to get the numbers down. As all his players have av 8 that is not so easy. Your mumies should always be in contact with some of his players, and try not to give him easy blocks away. It is possible to get out blocked by elves as tehy can dodge one player to make an assist for another, so be careful of that.

Try to force him to dodge away from your mummies every turn, be careful wtih positioning to make sure he can't get enough assists to get a 1d or2d block on you (even thoguh that will tie up a lot of players).

As ever you want to keep your ghouls at the back for protection and as safeties. He does not have a lot of speed, so will find going around you quite difficult.

On his posession make sure you send some players after the thrower, assuming he plays a "normal" elf game of keeping a thrower deep in his half and trying to pass to someone for the TD. You either want him to score early (T2 or T3) or not at all. With your opponent haveing no catchers and not much speed you should be able to deal with a receiving threat, try to batter the elves he moves into your half and double mark them if you have the numbers, and pressure the thrower, but not too much. Elves find it hard to stall, and they need too to cut down the number of turns you have to score back. One easy way is to sit back with a thrower behind a screen, so you can't let him do that, you need to put on some pressure, but make sure you don't get too stretched.

Anyway good luck, note in the cyanide client if you make a mistake when changing your team you can click on the red X on the top right and it will cancell most things. (not skillups I think), but purchases sacking players etc.

I would really hate playing his team against yours, so you should have a good chance.

Thanx for the tips. I feel a lot better about playing against the elves now. I think I have a gameplan formulating in my head now.

This is week 2 on a fresh rookie league. I managed to get MVP on a mummy that killed a Norse llneman so I have Guard on one Mummy. I didn't see any additional skills on his team.

Thius one went as expected. 2-0 win for the Undead. Nothing extraordinary happened. I think his Thrower will miss mext game and I am still down one Wight which I probably won't replace for another game or two. MVP went to a zombie with no previous SPP. I get Ogre's next.

Thanx again all.

Congrats on the win.

I realised afterwards that the team was not quite as beat up as I thought as had started with an apo and two rerolls rather than some catchers and two rerolls (which is what I would have done)

Against ogres then you need to use you Wight to blitz a snotling as much as possible and be careful of the mighty blow and flying snotlings. When needed stick a zombie marking an ogre, plus you mumies can mark them too, but try not to let him get 2d on a mummy too much if you can.

It also depend a bit on his roster, a standard ogre roster is 4 ogres and 4 rerolls IIRC, you need extra rerolls on an ogre team to deal with the bone head and lack of block. If he had less rerolls you can be more agressive in marking his ogres so he uses them up and starts getting turnovers.

Snotlings normally foul a lot as well so try not to get a player isolated as there is then a big risk of a nasty gang foul.
