It was quite a risky move and nice to behold... but I was expecting a grand finale (failing the last dodge of course and splaterring himself all over the field)...

It was the AI. and he didn't just dodge. he dodged into 2 tackle zones twice!

I just watched one of his games in OCC season 10. I think it was MD 1 or 2 against the Bear Hunters... Wow.

1st half as one would expect of a Chaos team heavy in MB/Tackle and PO etc etc. Tree injured in the first block, slow grind etc. 1-0 half time for the Hunters.

The second half is a wow example of how to attack with woodies. In particular turn 12 or 13 sees an opening for a 1D leaping blitz (!!! Guard chaos players were not correctly posiitned), which i detected right away with my keen elven eye for spots with no Guard... ahaaaa, me thinked, here comes the blitz! I then make the move in mind... first I mark the corners and then... and so Flix does precisely that: 2 Catchers mark the the unGuarded corners but then.... Flix instead leaps and blitzes from another square at a 2D against... wtf?

Then I realize that what probably interested Flix was not the 1D or 2D really... as his WD was a stripballer and the carrier did not have block... but rather the tile where the ball would have been scattered to! And so he had in fact simply marked the AG3 corners that would have had a chance to catch if the ball went to their square! From the 1D leap the ball would have been surrounded by chaos players and not accessible, whereas the 2D against effectively placed it much more in the open. Marked, yes, but accesible for pick up.

He also had a lot of luck in seriously injuring 2 of his star player beasts, including the MB/Tackle/PO beast and the +AG/2 Heads/Dodge/Strip ball one, which helped him win the game 2-1 in the end, but hey.

I just had an amazing last turn against Gallows.

I was 1-0 down and going for a two-turn equaliser, but only got one Wight in range of the endzone and he was marked. Also Gallows had blitzed my carrier down so the ball was on the floor in my own half. It was looking like a 3+ pick up, 2+ non-interception, 4+ pass, 4+ catch (TZ), 3+ dodge then 2+ GFI to score all without any rerolls. 7.7% without a reroll.

Instead I could make a 2d block (no Block) needing a knockdown to get space for a 2d blitz (no Block) to push the marker away to avoid the intercept attempt, make the catch easier and avoid a dodge. New odds of 9.1%. Big improvement. So I made the knockdown, then the pushback, then the pick up, then the pass. The catch failed, but then the wow moment.

- The ball scattered to an adjacent Zombie (who had just blitzed the marker away), where all other squares were empty. 1/8
- The Zombie failed the catch in a TZ (and I needed it to fail). 5/6 chance of that happening.
- The ball scattered back to the Wight. 1/8
- The Wight failed the catch. 1/2
- The ball scattered back to the Zombie. 1/8
- The Zombie failed the catch. 5/6
- The ball scattered back to the Wight. 1/8
- The Wight caught the ball. 1/2
- The Wight made the GFI. 5/6

I don't know how to calculate the exact odds of a successful play given that there is no limit to the number of scatters as long as the ball doesn't hit the floor and no one catches it. But the odds of that particular play according to Samba, which doesn't include the scatters, are 0.032%. Including the scatters on my trusty calculator, I make it 0.0000078%, or just under 1 in 130 000 (8 in a million). Anyone disagree? It's early and my maths may be pants. Although no matter the exact number, it's still pretty damn wow if you ask me.

Of course looking at it another way, the odds of me getting a 1-1 draw with Gallows are roughly evens, so it wasn't that unlikely to work...

The replay is on BBM if anyone wants to see it. CTA league, The Haunters of the Dark vs Sturmwald Seagulls.

Have to say it was an amusing and somewhat fitting end to the match, where as Rusty said, a 1-1 draw is our most common result by far.

The luck and direction of the ball shifted repeatedly in both halves, and just when I thought I'd had all the luck at the end to take a 1-0, Nuffle evened it up with a hearty chuckle and this amazing play, so funny to watch as it happened.

"Ode to the Silent Zombie"

Oh ye silent heroes of necro team
While the wolves and wight stars gleam

You do your duty with nigh a whisper
For you have no vocal cords mister

Yet being hit alone by big loners, you do not fear
Quietly ye think: "I'll get up and stay right here"

Yours is the silent glory, you take the brunt
While protected by thee, the wolves hunt

So I do this Ode to the Zombie hero player
To whom the necro team never gives a prayer

Inspired by my Zombies KOing 2 vampires during a great game this morning ! Due to good positioning of the vampires I could get 2 die only with some of the block-less zombies. Plus many vampires were stunned by them... standing up or not... did resort to fouling to keep those suckers down... as always zombies did the dirty work. A wolf and a ghoul were hurt... so it was a lot of zombies around the 2nd half.

Sometimes we focus too much on the star players and forget how to use those zombies/linemen/thralls...
