BB2020 Dwarf Starting Rosters

Dwarf Starting Rosters Overview

Dwarf teams have it pretty easy as a beginner team, the players and rerolls are quite affordable and you have both high armour and lot of Block. Your main consideration is if you want to have a Deathroller on your team. They are expensive (and have gone up even more) and due to having Secret Weapon aren’t going to stay on the pitch for the whole game.

A couple of players, the Runners and Troll Slayers have also had a slight price increase. This means you now can’t just get three rerolls and all your normal positional players straight away.

The go to starting roster for years was pretty straight forward but consecutive price increases, first to the team rerolls and then to a couple of players, now means you have to drop a positional player for an extra Lineman.

The obvious choice is to only start with a single Troll Slayer. The other positional have better agility which is one of the Dwarf team’s weaknesses. They also have slightly lower armour than most their team mates and whilst it’s the same as the Runners, their agility and extra speed make them more important. You also have the Frenzy factor, if your league has a lot of stronger teams then Frenzy is harder to work around until you start getting some players with Guard to help them out.

As speed and overall low agility is the downside to the team, I feel starting with three rerolls helps out. You can’t afford to start with an Apothecary but with high armour and lots of Block you are one of the most survivable teams. I would still make getting one the first purchase you make.

With the price increases it becomes even harder to fit a Deathroller into a starting team. To free up funds it makes sense to start without Troll Slayers for the reasons given above. Squeezing in three rerolls isn’t really practical. You now also have to choose between dropping Blitzers or Runners (or one of each). The extra speed of the Runners is probably going to be the bigger miss, even though they don’t start with Block.

Looking at the roster I think you are giving up far too much and handicapping yourself in order to start with the Deathroller. You only have eleven players and the most expensive one of those is going to get sent off. One of the strengths of the Dwarf team is how hard they are to remove from the pitch, so taking a really expensive one that is going to get sent off goes counter to that strength.

You are also spending more money on extra Blockers that you probably aren’t going to want long term in order to keep your team value down. Assuming you get no lasting injuries, by the time you’ve added both the Blitzers and the Troll Slayers to the team, you’re up to fifteen players including the Deathroller. You’re also probably going to want to save up to get an extra reroll (though some coaches won’t) which makes it hard to prioritise your spending.

Dwarf Starting Rosters Summary

Dwarf starting rosters are one of the most straight forward teams when it comes to picking an obvious starting point. Straying away from this just causes too many drawbacks to really warrant doing so. There is a case to be made for taking a Deathroller from the start and that’s purely down to the enjoyment you think you’ll get from going that route. From a tactical standpoint though it just has too many drawbacks.

  1. Hello, I am a big fan of your website, I basically follow your advices for the team building and also regarding the skills improvement.

I am starting a family league and just would like to share with you some modifications I consider interesting regarding the dwarf team building.

First for both team I substitute a runner, for the heavy dwarf team I get one more lineman to get one more player with block and tackle, and for the deathroller team I get a blocker to get a player able to get the ball 3+ and with block. And also replace one 9+ AV with 10+ AV.

Off course for those two modifications there is pros and cons. But I guess it is also because I play teams with mostly one thrower which the runner is a variation of.

    Positional Heavy Dwarves
    7 Linemen 490
    1 Runner 85 575
    2 Blitzers 160 735
    1 Troll Slayer 95 830
    3 Rerolls 150 980

    Deathroller Dwarves
    8 Linemen 560
    1 Runner 85 645
    1 Blitzer 80 725
    1 Deathroller 170 895
    2 Rerolls 995

  2. Hi, Coach!

There’s another starting roster which you can go. If you drop once RR on the first roster, you can upgrade one lineman to a slayer.
I’m not sure if it’s worth cause going with only 2RR is not optimal, but there are more chances to land the MVP on tour postionals.
It leaves 25k gold towards buy your apothecary.
