Oh well I haven't followed GW in a while, but just in case I can say that anything that may happen play-creator wise has absolutely nothing to do with GW, officially or otherwise.
Though if anyone from GW were to feel like throwing some money and/or official sanction my way, feel free to get...
I hate to be a tease, but I wouldn't rule it out. I just don't know the timing involved, so I haven't said anything yet - nor will I, other than a vague 'probably, but when??'
I have learned a lot since the earlier tools so I have some very exciting ideas (if I say so myself) but for the time...
If only I felt sure there was no risk of getting in trouble I'd get right on this, but apparently starting a fundraiser (regardless of platform) is different from making something and accepting donations - because it's, in a way, making money off of another's IP. Meaning no pre-funding (ie, no...
I don't know any of those games, so it would probably be hard for me to do anything with them - unless I make it so generic it could support most boardgames, which may not be a bad thing at all.
However, doing something like that I would need to be very careful to not have it go over the edge...
No I know, I appreciate the suggestion, as it has some interesting features for sure - some of which will provide food for thought regarding the next play-creator.
Very cool, some interesting features there for sure. Raising the bar, I like it!
That's an iPad only app though, right? I would want to target a broader audience than that (popular though the iPad is).
Aye, that feature was actually number one on my draft list - I've started hammering out some ideas with Coach, too, but keep it coming - to gauge popularity of an idea and to think outside the box.
Good ideas Coach, some of those are on my list already - I've deliberately chosen not to post it before hearing people's ideas though, because I don't want to limit their creativity :D
The mouse-over feature is probably trivial to code, so then it becomes a question of "do I want to do this"...
Yeah I've put something on the list for this kind of thing too - though what the actual solution would be is not completely decided, I have a couple of things in mind and am still weighing options.
From the Cyanide game you mean? It may be, depends if the file format of the replays is open. In either case there's a legal question too. It's an interesting idea though!
I am compiling a list of features I'd personally like to add to the potential re-write of the Play-Creator (it might be in for a re-naming, too, since it appears the domain is gone), does anyone here have some feature requests? No promises though. Don't worry about repeating something someone...
Well you guys have me just about convinced that setting up a crowdfunding-thing is at least worth the effort - then it all depends on the results of that.
I'll be looking into the details, probably over the next week or so, then we'll see. I just need to find one that'll give people their money...
Thanks, glad you liked it. There's basically two things that could happen for it to come back:
1) I get some people helping with the costs of running the server (as has been discussed earlier in this thread)
or
2) I start a project to create an entirely new version, that will run on a...
Thank you for those links. A preliminary search of my own led me to Raise Money for YOU! Crowdfunding & Online Fundraising Websites! they seem fair enough as well. Suffice to say, if this project does get started, there are options for collecting the money.
I don't know - I didn't even check their terms since the first thing I stumbled upon was their "US or UK" requirement.
Edit: Kickstarter charges 5%, and the payment processor takes another 3-5%. Still, Kickstarter isn't an option, so it's only interesting for comparison. Most alternatives are...
Plenty of Danes too, but from what I can gather, they're simply ignoring the requirement of being US or UK registered. Unless I'm mis-reading the terms and conditions of course.
I have no intention of "breaking the rules", especially not where potentially taking other people's money is...
That's not a bad idea, the good thing about Kickstarter is that it's risk-free - if the project doesn't get off the ground, everybody gets their money back (or rather, until the funding goal is met, nobody will get charged in the first place). I've supported a few projects on Kickstarter myself...
