BB Manager is permanently down

It's with a heavy heart I bring you this bit of news:

BB Manager will no longer be available.

SuperJC has informed me that his host has nuked the DB and app, and also the FTP server that stored the DB backup, losing app. 300.000 matches in the process. I have no further details beyond these.

Many of us have used BB Manager for years, and we know the loss of the app will be a blow to leagues across the world.

Please join me in thanking SuperJC for the use of his free app. It had a good run, and I'm sure it will be remembered fondly.

I'd imagine that format in game recording has changed from BB1 to BB2, and it all depends on the extent of the changes. However, it should be doable to adopt BB2StatsGrabber to use the old game record format and analyze them the same way it does BB2 games.

Shame about BBM. People just don't care. How could they nuke it? There has to be back ups, it is normal business practice to do the back ups, so with some efforts they could be restored.

Hi there,

I have been working on a BBManager-like tool for 6-8 months now, initially to overcome some of its shortcoming but now it has added impetus as a replacement.

It is still in development but it does the simple things really well and is having more features added. Things it can do at the moment include logging matches, tables, team stats, team and player progression, overall charts, charts per competition, awards for outstanding players. There is some dice analysis in there though that is very much in beta and has some known issues.

Our gaming group has been happily using it for a while now but I would value another group who would be happy to use it in its current state, whilst also beta-testing it. Preferably someone who is just running a simple "play each other once" league but I would consider more complicated setups. If you're interested let me know & we can work something out.

Bbtactics.com does regularly run small simple leagues, so shouldn't be hard to find some takers, as long as you don't look like a virusmonger.

It's similar to the systems found at UKBBL or the old world league. You go to the website, upload the relevant files and the database deals with the rest. It's BB1 only at the moment but has been constructed in such a way that making it work for BB2 is a possibility in the future. Our group only plays BB1 at the moment.

I have lots of experience with databases so I know what I'm doing

Like BBmanager showed - a tool that relies on someone else keeping a program and database running can fail without warning at any time. So solutions "closer to home" can be good.
