  1. I feel the team is a good example of how GW has left a lot of the old team design ethos and theme behind. Losing cheap linemen and multiple cool under pressure catchers which was their theme (pro not amature elves like the other teams) has left them with very little and they are by far the worse elf option now.

      • Thanks for pointing that out Treeman. I’ve updated the changes list on the post. Whilst it is a buff, I think it’s quite a small one. Especially as I consider passes are usually an unnecessary risk given the current turn structure of the game. Unless you are in a situation you have to score quickly, it’s usually better and safer to just run with the ball, or to eliminate the passing roll and just do a hand off. The Linemen also now have the option to use Fumblerooski, which also swaps 2 rolls (pass and catch) for a single pick up roll instead.

PA going from 4+ to 3+ takes your odds of successfully passing (with a reroll) from 75% to 88.8%. That says, to me at least, that your opponent now has to respect 6 more pieces as viable passing threats than they did previously. Or, if you don’t care for that, then like you said, a ‘drop the ball next to a blodge sidestep piece with very little risk’ threat.

But, what is your take? Do you think they are as unviable and terrible as most elf coaches seem to be saying?

  2. I’ve been able to play a handful of games with Elvin Union this edition and I’m beginning to like Fumblerooski. In combination with a handoff and a throw, the ball can travel really far in one turn relatively safely. Losing the extra catchers is a pain. Getting caught in a scrum is a great way to get knocked out or out of the game. I’m enjoying the team but you really have to pay attention to dancing away and maybe getting a block or two in before you scramble for a score. I do think the stalling rule has really hurt fast teams though.

  3. Hey Coach. I believe having so many piece with Fumblerooski is quite strong. As soon as you can setup a few pieces, it becomes quite easy to move up the ball all the way to the other side of the board, rolling nothing but 2+ each time.

    • Hi Conan, thanks for commenting. You’re not wrong in your assessment that it will let them move the ball with a lot of 2+ rolls. The issue is that the price of the linemen increased as a result for a lot of a skill that isn’t going to be used most of the time.
