Useful to:
Amazons don’t really need to take Leader, their rerolls are fairly cheap and so are their players. Their throwers would also benefit more from other skills.
Chaos have to use a doubles roll to take Leader, though their rerolls are expensive normally. The team has a lot of skills to take that would be useful as well, though most of them can be taken on normal skill rolls. This is a borderline choice and down to coach preference.
Chaos Dwarfs start with a lot of useful skills for their style of play. Again they would need to spend a doubles skill for Leader and there are better choices for those. After picking the ball up, most of their game plan will be blocking with a lot of Block and starting with rerolls I wouldn’t choose Leader here.
Dark Elves have expensive players and no ball handling skills. They will often start with only two rerolls and even with AG4 they can’t pass the ball around like the other Elves. Leader could be useful for them to save money for players early in team development and having that extra reroll will be useful in plenty of games.
Dwarfs have cheap rerolls and fairly cheap players. They start with Sure Hands for picking the ball up and have lots of Block for when they are hitting. They don’t lose many players with their high armour and are usually a cash rich team.
Elf teams may want to take Leader, their team has low armour and the Catchers are big and expensive targets for the opposition. The Thrower won’t be giving up much by taking Leader as they can pass fairly well already and the extra cash may be useful.
Goblin teams can start with plenty of rerolls and they need their double skill rolls for much more useful skills that they don’t have the access to as other teams do.
Halfling teams can start with a lot of rerolls and can steal the opposition ones with a Master Chef as well. They will also have much more useful choices to take with double rolls.
High Elves may benefit from the extra money Leader provides early on, though they can easily start with three rerolls and have the least player turnover of the elven teams.
Humans can start with plenty of rerolls, have lots of skill rerolls on their players and have a fairly cheap team all round. The Throwers will also have much more useful options to pick.
Khemri teams have very poor ball handling, and may need rerolls for their blocking. Their rerolls are expensive so Leader could be useful.
Lizardman teams have some very resilient players and their team isn’t expensive. They also require doubles for Leader and there are much better skill choices for them.
Necromantic teams have expensive rerolls and no ball handling skills. No one has passing skill access either. There is no obvious candidate for taking leader but it could be useful, though you may want to pick something else with a doubles roll.
Nurgle teams have no ball handling skills and expensive rerolls. A doubles roll is needed for anyone to take it, though again there are probably better choices. May be useful on a Rotter though they do tend to die quickly.
Ogres would have to use a doubles roll to get Leader and there are better choices for them.
Orc teams are fairly cheap and are usually cash rich as their players have high armour. There are higher priority skills to take on the thrower as well.
Skaven teams can suffer from great player turnover so the extra cash may come in handy. Depending on your play style you may not feel the Thrower is passing up anything more useful. As their players are cheap though Skaven teams can start with four rerolls.
Undead teams have to spend doubles to get Leader. Their rerolls are expensive though their players are fairly cheap. As you have four Ghouls one of them could take leader, there are other options however and is down to the coaches preference.
Vampire teams really rely on rerolls and will often start with a lot of them. Leader does require a doubles roll and it may be useful on a thrall. Weigh up the other options first and you may not need it if you started with a lot of normal rerolls.
Wood Elf teams have expensive and fragile players. They are in the same situation as the Elf teams with regards to their Thrower, so again I can see sense in taking Leader.

Just to clarify, can you use both a Leader reroll and a Team reroll on the same turn? For different dice rolls of course.
No, a Leader reroll works the same as a team reroll, just if the player with the skill isn’t on the pitch then you don’t have access to it. This is why it is assumed when you use a reroll, you use the Leader one first in case that player gets knocked out or injured before you get a chance to use it.
So just to be clear, you can not use a Leader reroll and a normal Team reroll in the same turn.
Thanks for the clarification. A great site you have here! All the best.
Better doubles choices on a snotling, huh? I sure couldn’t find any. 70k rerolls makes this skill basically a no-brainer: save the 40k in TV (almost a babe, every game!) and buy a player (or 7) for the $140k. No rookie team with 70k TRR has the kind of cash to fritter away just because they want Pass or something. It seems you recommend Leader mostly to Elf teams, and I just wanted to offer a counterpoint. Great article, cheers
Little update: the snot died in the very next game on a snake-eye dodge. Carefully consider the pressure you’re putting on the little guy, apparently.
M8 you forgot to add the norse team 🙂
I took the Leader skill on one of my vampires which is really great. I wouldnt recommend it on a thrall because they easily get knocked out or hurt by bloodlust or the opponent.
Although I can see your logic in this, Vampires themselves already have too many skills that they need to be effective. If you were going to get leader on a vampire id be more inclined to just take Pro which doesn’t require doubles, and most the time you will use pro to try and reroll bloodlust when it isn’t key to reroll it, but would be convenient to save a thrall from getting bitten.
2016 rule removes ‘after any Master Chef rolls’ suggesting you could argue that Leader rolls can be taken by the chef also! Maybe the leader skill players mind is on lunch?
